MDS ARCHITECTURE DESIGNS PROJECTS IN TANZANIA AND NIGERIA

MDS Architecture has designed two iconic office buildings in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania as well as a shopping centre in Lagos, Nigeria.

These buildings add to the portfolio of buildings designed by the firm in Dar Es Salaam: Mlimani Shopping Centre, Mlimani Conference Centre, PPF Towers, Stanbic Dar es Salaam and Holiday Inn (now Southern Sun) Hotel.

Amani Place: Dar Es Salaam

The first new building is Amani Place on Ohio Street. It is an 11-storey office building offering 12,000 m2 of GLA with a 7 storey parkade. The project is currently under construction and due for completion in October 2009.

Amani Place is located opposite the Movenpick Hotel and has been designed to take advantage of stunning views over the adjoining golf course and ocean beyond. Its design evokes a feeling of grandeur with a prominent entrance and 6-storey glass curtain wall. The building is elevated for effect and for practical reasons, such as storm water drainage. Tanzania’s two major banks will be occupying the building: CBA and Ikiba Bank together with other prominent Tanzanian companies.

Unique Office Building: Dar Es Salaam

The Unique Office Building is a triple-storey office building offering 1,800 m2 GLA. Due for completion in June 2010, it is set on a podium and features a floating cantilevered roof to shade the terrace on the top floor. The tiled exterior evokes a sophisticated finish, which is offset by the strong architectural feature of a lift tower clad in perforated stainless steel. Deeply recessed, yet full height glazing has been used on the terrace, giving the appearance of a floating roof. Openings in the overhead slab provide definition in through a splash of burnt orange.
